Sloth Jam™ is a party game for families, made by Strategic Sloth LLC (“we”). This page explains what we collect when you visit slothjam.com, play the game or buy a founder pack, why we collect it, and how a grown-up can see or delete it. Questions go to hello@slothjam.com.
The short version
- Children never give us personal information. They never type an email, a real name or an age, and chat is picked from a short list of kind words that never leaves the device.
- Before the first game, a grown-up signs in with their email address. A child never does.
- If a grown-up makes an account, we keep their email address and a copy of the family’s save and colored pages, so they can move between devices.
- The game itself has no analytics, no tracking and no ads. It only sends an anonymous “still playing” signal so we can count how many games are being played. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits, with Google’s advertising features turned off, and asks visitors from Europe first.
- We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
What we collect
Visiting this website
The pages at slothjam.com, not the game, use Google Analytics. It tells us which pages people visit, how far they scroll, which links they click (such as the buy buttons), roughly where they are (country and city, worked out from the IP address), and what kind of device and browser they use. Google Analytics sets cookies to tell a returning visitor from a new one. We turned off Google signals, ad personalization and advertising cookies. If you visit from Europe, we ask first: Google Analytics does not load at all unless you choose Accept. Anyone can change their answer at any time with Cookie choices at the bottom of the page. The site also loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to fetch them.
Playing the game
The game at slothjam.com/play has no analytics, ads or tracking. While it is on screen it sends our server a signal once a minute so we can count how many games are being played: a random number made fresh each time the game is opened and never stored on your device, plus the time. It carries nothing else, so it cannot tell us who is playing or tie one visit to another, and we do not store the address it came from. Your sloths, outfits, progress, coins, settings, ghost runs, photos and the pages colored in the Paint Corner are saved in your browser’s own storage on your device. Sloth names are picked from a list of words, never typed. The game also stores its own files on your device so it can load quickly and play offline. Clearing your browser’s site data for slothjam.com removes all of it.
The Sloth Jam app on Google Play opens this same game, full screen in the phone’s browser. The app itself collects nothing more.
A grown-up account
The game asks for a grown-up account before play, behind a grown-ups-only question, and only a grown-up makes one. To sign in, the grown-up enters their email address and we email them a six-digit code; there are no passwords. We keep:
- the grown-up’s email address;
- a copy of the family’s game save (the same game data described above), so it can move to another device;
- the pages colored in the game’s Paint Corner, as pictures, so the coloring book is the same on every device;
- a sign-in token that keeps the device signed in. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of it, and of each sign-in code;
- a scrambled form of the IP address and email for a short time, only to stop someone from guessing sign-in codes.
Buying a founder pack
Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers. Stripe sends us the buyer’s email address, which pack was bought, and the name the buyer chose for the game’s credits, if any. We keep that order record with the founder code we email to the buyer. A name entered for the credits will be shown publicly in the game’s credits. Stripe’s own use of your information is covered by Stripe’s privacy policy.
Island news emails
Only if the grown-up ticks Email me island news and founder offers when signing in, we also email them news about the game and the founder packs: a few welcome emails over the first two weeks, then only when something new lands. We keep their email address, when they said yes, and which emails went out. The emails have no tracking pixels. Links in them carry a campaign tag (such as utm_campaign=welcome) so the website’s visit counts show which email was useful, never who clicked. Every email has an Unsubscribe link that works with one press; unsubscribing does not touch the account or the save. Deleting the account removes this too.
Invite links
Each grown-up account has an invite link, shown only in the game’s grown-up menu and on slothjam.com/invite.html after the grown-up signs in there with the same emailed code, for the grown-up to share with other grown-ups. The link carries a short random code and nothing else. When someone opens it, the code is kept in their browser’s storage. If they then make a new grown-up account, we note which account invited theirs; if they buy a founder pack, the code goes to Stripe with the order and we note the order and the buyer’s email against the inviting account, so each buyer counts once. The inviting family sees only how many friends joined and how many packs were bought, never who. Deleting either account removes these notes.
Emailing us
If you write to us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
Children
Sloth Jam is made for ages 6 and up, and we follow the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A child never signs up, types an email or enters a real name, and the game has no free-text chat. The only chat is a short list of kind words, shown on the same device and never sent to us or anyone else. Online play is not available yet. If we add it, friends will join by a picture code, never by searching, and only after a grown-up turns it on. We will update this page before that happens.
A parent or guardian can ask to see or delete their family’s information at any time by writing to hello@slothjam.com, or delete the account themselves in the game’s grown-up menu. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
How we use it
- to run the game, sign grown-ups in and keep their save on every device;
- to email sign-in codes, founder codes and replies to your messages, and island news to grown-ups who asked for it;
- to deliver founder packs, give refunds and keep the records the law requires;
- to understand how many people visit this website and what they look at, so we can improve it;
- to keep the service safe, for example by slowing down repeated sign-in attempts.
We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, show ads, or build profiles of players.
Who helps us run Sloth Jam
These companies process information for us, only to provide their service:
- GitHub hosts the website and game files.
- Supabase runs our server and the database that holds accounts, saves and orders.
- Resend delivers the emails we send.
- Stripe takes payments for founder packs.
- Google provides Google Analytics and Google Fonts for this website.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our players. These providers may store information in the United States and other countries.
How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes stop working after 15 minutes and are then deleted.
- A device stays signed in for up to a year.
- An account, its save and its colored pages are kept until a grown-up deletes the account, which removes them right away.
- Founder pack orders are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- The game’s anonymous play signals are deleted after 120 days.
- Google Analytics keeps visit details for 2 months, then keeps only totals.
Your choices
- Delete the account: open the game’s grown-up menu and choose Delete the account, or email us.
- See or correct your information: email us and we will send you what we hold.
- Data on your device: clear your browser’s site data for slothjam.com.
- Google Analytics: choose Cookie choices at the bottom of any page and pick No thanks, block cookies for slothjam.com in your browser, or use Google’s opt-out add-on.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, such as the right to ask what we hold, to take a copy, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will help, wherever you are.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-in codes and tokens are stored only in scrambled form, and only our server can reach the database. No system is perfect, so if something ever goes wrong, we will tell the people affected.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and its date. For a big change, we will tell grown-ups with an account by email before it takes effect.
